Bogota was first populated by muiscas, who was settled in Cundinamarca and Boyacá. They talked the language of Chibchas.In this area the population was organized in two large federations, each commanded by a chief: the southwest area dominated by the Zipa with the center located in Bacatá, currently Bogotá. He was the strongest leader occupying two fifths of the territory. The northeast zone was the Zaque domain and the center was Hunza region, currently Tunja. Muisca population however, contrasting with Tairona population, did not develop large cities. Muisca, eminently farmers formed a disperse population occupying numerous small villages and hut settlements. Besides, some free isolated tribes also existed: Iraca or Sugamuxi, Tundama and Guanentá.
Their inhabitants main occupation was agriculture complemented by hunting and fishing. They basically cultivated corn and potatoes, beans, squash, tomatoes, “cubios” yucca, tobacco, “arracacha”, sweet potatoes and diverse fruit and vegetables. In the mining field, salt and emeralds extraction was fundamental for their own use and to trade with other tribes from which they obtained gold and cotton. In the conquest of the Spaniards Gonzalo Jimenez de Quesada after found Santa Marta, he went exploring and found Santa fe de Bogota, so he decided to build an urban settlement. This was on 6 august of 1537. After it was named the capital of the new Granada. The first neighborhood was la calendaria. The he found juridical foundation with Federmann. The they found the Bolivar plaza and plaza mayor. The first mayor was Pedro de arevalo.
After time Bogota was the most important city of the colonial time there were churches, the city was expanded, now a days is the largest city in Colombia. In Bogotá was practiced the mita, encomienda and resguardo because many people worked there. The printing was useful in that time so the royalty can print the news.
Urban design consisted in squares and from that time the one hundred meters per lienzo de cuadra prevails. Traverse streets (east–west) were 7 meters wide and current carreras 10 meters wide.
In 1553 the Main Plaza—now Bolivar plaza—was moved to its current site and the first cathedral construction on the eastern side began. On the other sides the Chapter and the Royal Hearing were located. The street joining the Major Plaza and Herbs Plaza—currently Santander park. In 1948 was the bogotazo, it was when a man killed Jorge Eliecer Gaitan, the city exploted, the city was divided in partdo liberal and partido coneservador, there were many men killings. In 1970 the city was expanded and became modern.
After this period the city had transmilenio that is a ystem of transport, the cicloruta and pico y placa that is because many people have car so it was created to regulate the tarffic.Now a days the city had the world cup sub20, and the city became a touristic center, like monserrate, Colpatria tower, el campin. The two predominat soccer team sin Bogota are Millonarios and Santa Fe.
